Mary Frances Briles McNeil Passes

Mary Frances McNeil, age 88, of Hays passed Friday, June 24, 2011, at the Hays Good Samaritan Center. Memorial services was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street. Inurnment followed at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the St. Ann's Cemetery in Effingham, Kansas. Born December 25, 1922, at Vernon, Kansas, to Glen and Marcia Ruth (Lynn) Briles. She married Edgar F. McNeil on August 14, 1948, at Manhattan, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 2004. Survivors include her daughter Marcia Pfeiffer and her husband, Ed of St. Louis, Missouri; a son, Glen McNeil and his wife, Terry of Hays; grandchildren, Nicole Meinhardt (Kent), Becky Scalzo (Jim), Nathan McNeil (Lauren), Erica Pfeiffer, and Nolan McNeil; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a great grandson, Aiden Meinhardt.

Herbert Hudon Beck Dies Today

Herbert Hudson Beck Sr. 90, passed Wednesday (June 29, 2011) at the Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday (July 1, 2011) at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Jimmy Greene officiating. The family will receive friends at Davidson funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday night and at other times at the home. Born in Davidson County on December 13, 1920 to George Washington Beck and Minnie Ora Burkhart Beck; preceded in death by his parents, as well four brothers, George Beck, Cliffton Beck, Ledford Beck and Stacy Beck and four sisters Felita Beck, Betty Woodle, Mary Lene Perry and Hazel McAvery. Surviving are; his wife Carrie Forrest Beck of the home, one son Herbert Beck Jr. and wife Susan of Lexington; one sister Judy Leonard of Lexington; two grandchildren, Benjamin Beck and wife Rebekah of Morehead City NC and Daniel Beck of Asheboro NC.

Ila Mae Hunt Leonard Passes

LATE NOTICE

Ila Mae Hunt Leonard, age 93, passed Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center. Services were held Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 4:30 PM at Calvary United Church of Christ with Rev. Kelly Barefoot and Rev. Harold Holste officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Born in Davidson County on May 27, 1918, daughter of the late George Elijah and Laura Kearns Hunt. On August 15, 1937, she was married to Everette Edward Leonard, who preceded her in death on March 1, 1993. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry V. Leonard; three sisters, Annie Belle Cecil, Onnie Hunt, Annie Lee Hunt; and two brothers, Clay Hunt and Charlie Hunt. Mrs. Leonard is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Gaddy and husband Calvin of New London, and Margaret “Maggie” Lowe and husband Jesse of Welcome; two sons, Roy Leonard and wife Ann of Mt. Airy, and R. Dale Leonard and wife Delores of Thomasville; one daughter-in-law, Carol Leonard of Friendswood, Texas; grandchildren, Kim Mathis and husband Doug, Chrystal White and husband Joseph, Jerry Leonard and wife Cindy, Wendy Loggins, Xan Jackson and husband Tom, Lisa Tilley, Amy Surratt and husband Randall, Ashley Leonard and wife Dawn, Alexandra Shadroui and husband Mike, Courtney George and husband Ben, Edward Leonard and wife Sarah, and Natasha Castel and husband Aaron; twenty great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, seven step-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren.

Delphina 'Tootie Kennedy Fulton Dies

Delphia (Tootie) Marie Kennedy Fulton, 87, passed June 20th, 2011 at Westchester Manor. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Roger D. Weisner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Born June 8th, 1924 in Randolph County, a daughter to Ira Lee and Annie Crowson Kennedy. In 1946 she married William B. Fulton Jr. who preceded her in death in 2005. In addition to her husband and parents she was also preceded in death by a sister, Annie Leigh Skeen and a brother, Cameron Kennedy. Surviving is a daughter, June Fulton of Trinity; two nephews, Murray Skeen and Dwain Skeen; and four great nieces and nephews.

Verlie Wood Lofin Passes

Mrs. Verlie Wood Loflin, age 89, passed Wednesday, June 15 at Randolph Hospital. Graveside service for Mrs. Loflin will be 2:00 pm Friday, June 17 at Canaan United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Derald Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home. Bborn May 13, 1922 in Randolph County to Numie R. and Ida Amie Briles Wood. She had worked for Bisher Hosiery, Burlington Industries and Thornton Knitting in Denton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred Loflin who died August 15, 1965, her son, Charles Loflin and a sister Faye Byrum. Survived by her daughter, Regina Poole of Denton and husband Jackie, daughter-in-law Audrey Loflin of Denton, one brother, Clarence Wood of Asheboro, one sister, Clara Loflin of Trinity, the Jackson Creek Community, nephews Randy Loflin, Tony Wood and Tim Wood and niece Sherri Freland

Bruce Crotts, 87, passed away today, Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at his home. Funeral will be 11:00 AM Friday at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ in Lexington by Rev. Darrell Sluder. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home. Born April 28, 1924 in Davidson County to James C. Crotts and Clatie Smith Crotts. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dermont Crotts, Olin Crotts, and John Crotts, sisters Verna Beck, Edith Hedrick and Carleen Allred. James Richard Skeen Dies

James Richard "Jimmy" Skeen, 71, of Asheboro, NC, passed Monday, June 6, 2011, at his residence. Funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Swaney officiating. Burial will follow at West Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Asheboro. Native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Skeen was born March 15, 1940. He was the son of the late Charles Baxter Skeen and Kate Elizabeth Small Skeen. In addition to his parents, Mr. Skeen was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Skeen.
